Flying Spaghetti Monster! PROOF!

Thursday, May 31st, 2007

Are you Pastafarian? If not you should be…it’s the only religion that actually makes sense. The pirates of FSM have dug up another sighting of the great one, in addition to this more recent one from Germany, this comes from 1957 in Russia! Actual footage shot, and is accompanied by music which was always playing in Russia at that time…don’t you know. Below that we have a great video which illustrates the epic battle between the Lord FSM and the Pink Unicorn..set to music in what is sure to be the finest folk song ever written.

Derren Brown Zombie Scam: Best game ever

Wednesday, May 30th, 2007

This is one mean trick to play on an unsuspecting gamer. Darren Brown creates a Zombie first person shooter game, that slowly hypnotizes the player. The player is then carted off with his close pals in tow to a set right next door created to look like the game, chock full of brain hungry undead. He is handed a gun, awakened rudely with an airhorn, and he then finds himself actually physically in the game fighting for his life. It all seems to go off without a hitch in this example and we can only wonder if it is fake, a quick search didn’t reveal anything to prove it was a hoax, and either way it makes for entertaining viewing.

Mark Mothersbaugh: Mutato Visual on tour

Tuesday, May 29th, 2007

You (should) know Mark Mothersbaugh as one of the geniuses behind the influential band Devo, and the leader of the Mutato Music studio in LA, which scores films commercials as well as othe audio services. Did you know he was an accomplished visual artist as well? It’s no surprise really as Devo was a very visual band obviously, and are probably remembered equally for their great music, as well as their iconic costumes and sets. Mark has been keeping his visual art addiction soothed by creating these crazy mutant photo manipulations, and post card diaries. You can view them all online (and even purchase prints) as well as in a city near you! We love this little Octobambino…ain’t he just a little dickens.

Terminator vs. Robocop

Monday, May 28th, 2007

In case you’ve been living under a rock, or perhaps actually working at work you may have missed this one, it’s another oldie but goody. This is the great Terminator vs. Robocop movie mashup. Watch as these two superhero’s of American bloated budget cinema battle it out in this extremely well done and creative bit of editing.

First impressions: and how they can burn you

Sunday, May 27th, 2007

Wow! check out this very cool short film on perception and first impression. The film won a few awards and is beautifully edited by Chris Grant, written and directed by USC film maker Jon M. Chu, and stars and amazingly talented young man named Antoine Grant. I sure hope we will see more of this kid in the future as he is not only an amazing tap dancer, but quite an impressive natural talent judging from his understated role in this short…The film points out very clearly all the immediate assumptions we make based on appearance, and my only comment might be that when these assumptions are correct, we call it instinct. This film also points out how sometimes a clever thief will use these pre-determined stereotypes to their advantage, and how incorrect our perceptions can occasionally be.

THE ORIGINAL Scary ‘Mary Poppins’ Recut Trailer

Saturday, May 26th, 2007

This is an oldie, but a goodie. It has to be one of the best mashups out there. They turned cute old classic kids film Mary Poppins into something akin to the Exorcist.

Jellyfish Lake: EEEEYYOOW

Thursday, May 24th, 2007

Some more horror from mother nature today. The thing that really sells this video is the first above water shot of the lake, which sort of gives it that horror movie, college kids at the cabin feel. I don’t care if they don’t sting…I’m not going in! Check out this video shot in Palau of a lake completely overrun by Jellyfish. Here is the description with some info on the origins of this dastardly jelly infestation.

The jelly fish came to this lake in Palau through a tunnel which connected the sea and the lake long time ago. Now the tunnel have closed, and the jelly fish came to have no poison in an environment where there’s no predator. They live by photosynthesis because they cannot feed on anything in this lake. This lake is such a heaven to them that there are just so many of them living here.

Planet Earth Parasitic Fungi Attack: Creepy

Wednesday, May 23rd, 2007

EEYyow this is not a good way to go out. The poor Bullet Ants in this segment of Planet Earth have come under attack from a parasitic fungus. It grows inside them, makes them crazy, and then in true alien fashion it bursts out of their heads after only 3 weeks. DANG. If that’s not bad enough the other ants will immediately carry off any ants infected and leave them to die as it is very contagious, and apparently ant medical practitioners are not having success with any kind of treatment.
